Advances in quantum computing pose an existential threat to the asymmetric cryptography that secures all internet traffic today. Shor's algorithm can mathematically break RSA and Elliptic Curve encryption keys in a fraction of the time.

NIST has formalised lattice-based cryptography such as ML-KEM and ML-DSA as post-quantum defense standards. These standards are built to withstand attacks from classical computers and the most powerful quantum machines alike.

Organizations should begin inventorying their cryptographic assets now and adopt hybrid encryption schemes on TLS, combining elliptic curves with PQC algorithms during the transition period.

Anticipating the "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" strategy used by sophisticated threat actors is the crucial reason cryptographic modernization cannot be postponed.
