Android 16 Tightens Camera Privacy and Background Memory Management
The latest mobile OS update introduces tighter sensor access restrictions and runtime optimizations for daily battery consumption.
Android 16 brings a fundamental overhaul to how the system manages privacy permissions and background processes. Google is prioritizing sensor transparency with a hardware visual indicator isolated from app control.
Apps can no longer hold an active socket connection open without a foreground notification the user can clearly see. That significantly cuts the battery drain often caused by poorly optimized apps.
The unified memory management system also uses an on-device machine learning model to predict which apps a user will open, pre-warming them without sudden spikes in CPU cycles.
For mobile app developers, the changes require adapting background job architecture and full compliance with power efficiency guidelines.
